Rohit Sharma cuts off a reporter when they inquire about the contentious boundary count decision, saying, "It's not my job."

All of the captains assembled for a press conference led by former cricketers Ravi Shastri and Eoin Morgan prior to the ODI World Cup 2023. One of the journalists brought up the 2019 World Cup fiasco, in which England defeated New Zealand on boundary counts on the night of the finals to win their first-ever world championship in the 50-over format. Rohit, being Rohit, laughed off the topic and said that he doesn’t have the authority to declare victors. The finalist Jos Buttler was unable to comprehend the journalist’s question, so he asked Babar Azam to interpret it for him. Azam was seen giggling after hearing Rohit’s humorous response.

“Yaar, Kya. Aap kuch bhi. I did not create this. The crowd erupted in laughter as Rohit said, “It’s not my responsibility to announce the victors.

I’m really fortunate to be in charge of this group: Rohit Sharma

The host nation has won the last three ODI World Cup competitions. India will therefore begin as one of the favorites to win this time around. Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, said he feels fortunate to be in charge and that he is trying to avoid dwelling on the past so that he can focus on the present and have fun during the competition.

“I’m fortunate to be in charge of this group. Really not giving it much thought. The last three global editions have experienced it. As it’s a lengthy tournament and you can’t get too ahead of yourself, all I can say is that we will do our best and enjoy the competition, Rohit said.

Notably, Australia will be India’s opponent as they kick off their World Cup campaign on October 8 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
