We aspire to win significant prizes as one of the best teams in the world:  Rohit Sharma

It has been disheartening not to be able to hold an ICC trophy in previous years, Sharma said.

We aspire to win significant prizes as one of the best teams in the world:  Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, noted that the team’s prior results in ICC trophies have been disappointing but he is okay with it and doesn’t want to dwell on it. He has repeatedly stated his ambition to win the 2018 ODI World Cup, which is set to start on October 5. He strives to be in the present.

The 36-year-old also made the observation that, aside from Australia, no team has consistently performed well on the international stage and that England has just recently begun to win trophies. Therefore, he won’t accept any additional pressure because it might impair his ability to think clearly. He hopes to complete the task in the next two months since he thinks India is one of the best teams in the world.

“Yes, it’s okay if we didn’t win. I don’t overthink things or put myself in situations where I can’t make a decision. England has recently started to succeed; in 2019, they finally won the World Cup. It occurs. The only consistently successful team is Australia. In 2015, they won their first ODI World Cup since 2007.

They triumphed at the T20 World Cup in Dubai, Rohit Sharma told Indian Express.

Currently, the ICC awards a trophy each year. It’s a bad year if you don’t succeed! Simply said, what has been accomplished over the past ten months is forgotten. We are expected to win significant trophies since we are the Indian cricket team. One of the best teams in the world is ours. We need to excel at it. It has undoubtedly been disappointing, he continued.

Notably, India will open their campaign on October 8 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium against five-time champions Australia. Prior to that, both of their practice games were postponed due to rain, leaving the team short on playing time. However, the current Asian champions recently upset Australia 2-1 in an ODI series, so they should feel confident going into their first game.
