The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) World Cricket Committee’s new chair is legendary Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara. Former England captain Mike Gatting, who held the position for six years, was replaced by him in the position.
Kumar Sangakkara was the previous president of the MCC; Mark Nicholas, a former captain of Hampshire who is now a broadcaster, will take over.
The 45-year-old held the position for two years before passing it on to Stephen Fry, who is currently the MCC’s immediate past president. The 45-year-old was the organization’s first non-British president in 2019.
The MCC committee also included Kumar Dharmasena, Eoin Morgan, Ramiz Raja, Heather Knight, Suzie Bates, Justin Langer, and Ricky Skerritt. As an adjunct to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its member governments, the group meets twice a year to discuss pressing issues in the game.
Stephen Fry’s successor as president of the MCC, Nicholas, has stated his enthusiasm for the new role. He said that by participating in the Club’s current efforts, he hopes to become more active.
Mark Nicholas was reported by Cricketaddictor as stating, “I am honored to be following in the footsteps of many outstanding people who have had the opportunity of becoming the President of MCC, none more so than two heroes of mine and mentors, Ted Dexter and Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie.
Lord’s is undoubtedly a wonderful place, and I’m looking forward to getting more involved with the Club through the various projects we’re working on right now. The numerous events that we currently have scheduled for the upcoming year also thrill me, he continued.
Kumar Sangakkara, Nicholas, and Chris Rogers were all named as the new treasurer by the MCC. Tony Elgood, who held the role for six years, will be replaced by Chris Rogers. He joined the Club in 1977, and as of 2015, he has served on the finance committee.
