Tamim Iqbal is criticized harshly by Shakib Al Hasan, who says, "Totally childish, It is my bat and I'll play."

The absence of veteran opener Tamim Iqbal from Bangladesh‘s 15-person roster for the ODI World Cup in India, which begins on October 5, was one of the biggest news to come out of the announcement.

During their ODI series against Afghanistan in July, the southpaw served as Bangladesh’s captain. Tamim Iqbal, however, made the decision to leave the show in the middle of it before consulting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and doing a U-turn. Following some back-and-forth, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) agreed to give Shakib Al Hasan the reins as captain for the 2023 Asia Cup and the World Cup that follows.

Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan relationship has recently been rocky.

The former participated in Bangladesh’s most recent series against New Zealand after being sidelined by a back ailment during the Asia Cup. But Tamim Iqbal revealed after the second One-Day International against the Kiwis that his back problem is still bothering him and that it might be impossible for him to play in every World Cup game.

The former captain was dropped because Shakib did not want to take the chance of fielding a player who was only partially fit for the major event. The 34-year-old said on Facebook that one of the many issues he encountered on the way to selection was that a senior board member had requested him to object to the order. In response, Shakib said that a cricket player should play for the team rather than for personal glory.

“I’m confident that this was said to Tamim by a legitimate person. I have no doubt that whoever said it had the team in mind. A match’s combination is created using a variety of factors. Was it improper for someone to say this to him, then? Or is such a suggestion not possible? Simply put, I’m going to say to someone, “Do whatever you want.” Is the team or the individual put first? In an interview that aired on Wednesday night, Shakib provided this information to the Dhaka-based TV station T-Sports.

“Someone like Rohit Sharma built his career from opener to No. 7, scoring more than 10,000 runs. Would it be a major issue if he occasionally bats at No. 3 or No. 4? It is completely silly. I’ll play because it’s my bat. Nobody else is able to play. For the team, a player should bat at any position. group first. Whether you have made 100 or 200, it makes little difference if the team loses. What are some uses for personal success? You wish to establish your name? Shakib Al Hasan continued.
