Rizwan earlier in 2023 lost both his spot on the national squad and the UAE captaincy. Many people believed that this would be the final game of his cricket career. Rizwan, however, had other ideas.
CP Rizwan performance reflected the team’s troubles following the coaching change that left the UAE cricket team in shambles.
In the end, he was demoted from captain during a pivotal World Cup League 2 series in Dubai. He was initially selected for the team for a trip to Nepal, but he was dropped from the starting XI.
Regardless of these failures, Rizwan’s dedication to the game was unwavering. In order to play in the Minor League Cricket in the United States, he set off on a voyage. He learned that his newborn son, Hud, was in the hospital just as his team, the East Bay Blazers, was making waves in the competition, and he immediately booked a flight back to the UAE to be with his family.
CP Rizwan rescheduled his trip back to the US, where the Blazers were slated to play in the playoffs, as soon as his son’s health returned to normal. Before boarding the plane, he emphasized the value of family.
Even if he isn’t on the national squad, Rizwan still has a full schedule in cricket. He will play in the ILT20 development event in Dubai after his Minor League Cricket stint in an effort to attract franchises. Rizwan is committed to a successful comeback for the ILT20 and the national squad.
“I’m looking forward to that as it is one of the key platforms for us to put our case forward again, I want to do very well in that tournament and, Inshallah, make a comeback for the national team and also [get selected] for the ILT20, I am playing and training hard, doing fitness and skill training whenever I can,” Rizwan said, as quoted by The National News.
Rizwan seems unfazed by the UAE cricket team’s emphasis on developing young players. He finds inspiration in cricket great Imran Khan, who at the age of 38 captained Pakistan to a World Cup victory. Rizwan genuinely thinks that if one’s performance and fitness are on par, age should not be a barrier.
“I just want to take the best possible care of the things that I can manage so I can make my case once more. I am eager to once again play cricket for the UAE. I want to accomplish it as best I can because I’ve always had lofty objectives. There will be challenges and impediments when you have higher goals, but that is all part of the journey. Still, I want to rank among the top UAE players. I am eagerly anticipating the task that lies ahead. Better things, I’m sure, are on the way, Rizwan continued.
