With an admirable fan base supporting the game and the local players, cricket has become extremely popular in Nepal.
Their team has also achieved several outstanding results in a short period of time; one of them was qualification for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
Later this month, they will begin working on another task, which is the Asian Games of 2023. On September 27, the Nepal squad will face Mongolia in their first game of the 18-team competition. Their following game against the Maldives is set for Sunday, October 1.
Nepal has unveiled its 15-person roster for the competition, which includes some of their most seasoned athletes as well as some promising new players who can make an impression on the biggest platform. The team will be led by veteran leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who is on bail following an allegation of sexual harassment.
Bhim Sharki, Kishore Mahato, Arjun Saud, Aarif Sheikh, and Mousom Dhakal were not selected for the Asian Games team from the 17-man group chosen to compete in the Asia Cup 2023. Instead, chances have been provided to Bibek Yadav, Abinash Bohara, and Binod Bhandari. The latter will act as Aasif Sheikh’s backup choice for keeping wicket.
In the top order, players like Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif, and Rohit will be present. The spin department will be handled by Lamichhane and Lalit Rajbanshi, with part-time possibilities available in Dipendra Singh Airee and Kushal Malla. Leading the pace attack will be Karan KC and Sompal Kami. In the shape of Gulshan Jha, Abinash Bohara, and Bibek Yadav, they will have assistance. Pratis GC, who has so far played in three ODIs, has been included to the squad and might win his first T20I cap at the match.
