During the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023–2024, Australia Women are preparing for the important duty of getting ready for the India day-night Test. Notably, while the WBBL will take place from October 19 through December 2, the pink-ball match is a part of a multi-format series that will be played in December and January.
National women’s team selector Shawn Flegler indicated that the think tank is already formulating a strategy for the bowlers to increase their workload during the WBBL in order to get ready for the Test series.
“We must prepare during the WBBL, which is very crucial for both our pace bowlers and our spin bowlers to have their loads up and be prepared to go if asked to bowl long spells during the Test match. So it’s a balancing act to play in the WBBL while also training and getting some loads in, according to Flegler, who was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Notably, this would be the first Test series between the two cricketing giants in India since 1984. The last time Australia and India faced off was in a day-night Test match at the Carrara Oval in 2021, which the two teams tied.

Flegler also made note of the fact that the team will travel a little over a week before the multi-format series. In addition, the team will train with additional Indian players and maybe play an intrasquad game before the Tests.
A week or ten days prior to the start of the Test match, “We’re heading to India. So, in preparation for that, we’ll have some nice training. We’ll have a few extra Indian guys that we can deploy in various center-wicket situations. We don’t actually have a warm-up fixture,” Flegler stated.
“We’ve essentially decided to hold an intrasquad game. We will thus send the squad over there along with some Indian extras. Coming from a WBBL tournament into a pink-ball Test match under lights will be a good challenge for everyone, he continued.
