According to Hashmatullah Shahidi, our run rate was really poor, which is why we couldn’t defeat Bangladesh.

On Sunday, September 4, Bangladesh and Afghanistan squared off in Game 4 of the ongoing Asia Cup at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Bangladesh put on an outstanding display during the match, earning their first victory of the competition.

Bangladesh put up a remarkable effort in defending the objective, scoring 334 runs in total in the first innings. Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 89 runs to move into second place in the group standings as Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam wrecked havoc on their batting lineup.

Afghanistan’s performance in this match, their opening contest in the competition, was poor. Afghanistan’s captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, grabbed the stage after the team’s poor performance in match four to discuss the team’s effort.

Shahidi expressed the opinion that they needed to get better in every way and even identified the specifics of what went wrong. The team expects that the supporters will give them a similar level of support when they play in their second tournament game because the site is near to their home country, as stated by the captain.

“I believed I could chase the target. The target might have been chased down because the outfield was speedy, but we lost wickets. IndiaToday quoted Hashmatullah Shahidi as saying, “Their bowlers were good in the beginning, and our run rate was incredibly low; that’s why we couldn’t win.

“All of our departments require improvement. Both our fielding and our bowling today fell short of expectations. The fans were anticipating this match because Lahore is close to our nation. Hopefully they’ll show up to watch us play again the following time,” he continued.

Speaking about the game, Bangladesh posted the record-breaking total on the board thanks to hundreds from Mehidy Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto. Ibrahim Zadran and Shahidi produced tenacious innings to move Afghanistan closer to a victory as they entered the game to attempt to chase down the mark. However, while Bangladesh finally won the match by 89 runs, they were bowled out for 245 runs.
