Trent Boult of New Zealand made his opinion known regarding his plans to play cricket as a freelancer following the highly anticipated ODI World Cup.
Trent Boult will be a part of the 15-person squad that will play four one-day internationals against England as part of the lead-up to the major ODI event in India.
After choosing to leave the New Zealand central contract, Trent Boult played his last ODI in September 2022. Since then, he has been participating in T20 competitions all over the world. Notably, the fast bowler competed in the 2023 editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the International League T20 (ILT20).
Additionally, he participated in the just concluded Major League Cricket (MLC) for the MI New York, helping them win the championship, and ended up being the league’s top wicket-taker. When asked about continuing to play cricket as a freelancer after being selected for the 15-man squad for the England series, Boult stated his obligations.
“I don’t know, I’m a lower-order all-rounder first and a dad second.
I’m definitely as eager as ever to represent my nation and, hopefully, pull off a remarkable feat with the lads over the next few months,” Boult was quoted as saying by cricketmood.
It’s nice to be back in the action and just thrilled, honestly. Moving outside of the New Zealand cricket bubble, in a sense, a difficult decision to make a little more than a year ago. I never wanted it to be about New Zealand or franchise cricket; instead, I just valued the length of my career and tried to get the most out of the bowling I had left to provide,” he continued.
Along with Boult, who is included in the lineup, all-rounder Kyle Jamieson also makes a comeback after a break due to a back ailment. A multi-format series between the Kiwis and England that will feature four T20Is and as many ODIs is set to start on Wednesday, August 30.
The big-ticket event in 2023 will also get underway on October 5 at Ahmedabad’s illustrious Narendra Modi with the participation of the World Cup finalists from 2019.
