Head Coach Jon Lewis of the UP Warriorz, Assistant Coaches Abhishek Nayar of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Anju Jain of the UP Warriorz, and Mentor Lisa Sthalekar will oversee the off-season training camp. The camp began on July 31, 2023, in Bengaluru, and will run through August 10, 2023.
Bengaluru, August 4, 2023: The UP Warriorz are holding an off-season training camp in Bengaluru to refocus and assess their situation before the hectic cricket schedule. The Indian team will call Bengaluru’s Samprasiddhi Sports Estadio home. They were a member of the UP Warriorz squad that placed third in the first Women’s Premier League (WPL).
Abhishek Nayar, a former Indian all-rounder, was overjoyed to be a part of the UP Warriorz’s off-season training camp.
Having followed the development of women’s cricket in India over the past few seasons, he said, “I am now eager to work with the players from the UP Warriorz squad, especially brilliant young players like Parshavi Chopra, Yashasri, and Shweta Sehrawat who have already showcased their immense potential.”
Abhishek Nayar, who has had a significant impact on the development of individuals like Dinesh Karthik, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, and others by working closely with them, continued, “The camp also presents me with an excellent opportunity to interact with senior women’s players like Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad to understand their psyche and motivations that allow them to perform at an elite level.”
Abhishek Nayar said,
“The camp will allow the team to bond on and off the field, in turn becoming a more cohesive unit, and it will also help the players adapt better to difficult in-game situations.” He went on to describe how the camp will assist the players better understand each other’s playing styles. I think that having physical fitness and having talents go hand in hand, and the UP Warriorz management has done an outstanding job of combining the two throughout this camp.
It is always beneficial to work with different coaches from around the world as it fosters cross-learning, said the Hyderabad-born former left-handed batter when he was asked about working with the UP Warriorz coaching staff for the off-season training camp. I feel like Jon (Lewis), Anju (Jain), and Lisa (Sthalekar) have given me a greater understanding of the complexities of women’s cricket, and I intend to continue working with them to help the players reach their full potential.

The WPL’s influence on the women’s game in the nation was the 39-year-old coach’s final point.
