The turning point came in the 16th over. -Jason Holder, after West Indies defeated India in the inaugural T20I

The opening T20I of the series saw West Indies defeat India by four runs. The host team struggled in the early phase when batting first, but eventually put up 149 runs. Later, stumper-batter Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell played some outstanding cricket, which helped the team get to a winnable total.

Obed McCoy, Jason Holder, and Romario Shepherd each took two wickets for the Rovman Powell-led team, which performed admirably with the ball. The Indian batsmen particularly struggled in the middle innings as the home team won by a thrilling four runs.

In the meantime, veteran all-rounder Jason Holder claimed towards the conclusion of the game that India’s innings’ 16th over altered the course of the game. He also praised the bowlers for their outstanding work and for getting wickets when it mattered most.

“The game was fairly close going into the 16th over, which proved to be the turning point. We had to continue playing as they had designated hitters. The guys worked as a cohesive unit; it was a successful team effort. The bowlers benefited from the favourable playing circumstances. In the post-game presentation, Holder said, “We got early wickets, which is absolutely significant.

Jason Holder discusses why he decided to forgo the ODI series.

The 31-year-old clarified the cause of his absence from the ODI series, saying the bowler needed to concentrate on workload management. He continued by explaining that because of the pressure, he had been playing a lot during the previous few months and that he needed a break to recharge before returning.

“The quantity of cricket I’ve played over the past three years is a lot. I look for opportunities to pause, take a breather, recharge, and then return. A break from the ODIs, in my opinion, was necessary. I was pleased with myself for pursuing my ambitions. I didn’t want to give any free runs; I wanted them to work hard for their runs, Holder continued.
