Tilak Varma received his first call-up to the national team for the five-match T20I series against the West Indies thanks to a couple of outstanding seasons in the Indian Premier League. The 20-year-old played some outstanding cricket on his debut, scoring 39 runs off 22 deliveries and taking a spectacular catch to remove Johnson Charles in the ninth over.
In the meantime, Varma’s teammate from the Mumbai Indians camp, Dewald Brevis, wrote him a very unique note after the game. The Hyderabad-born cricketer blasted two sixes in the first three deliveries he faced, and the South African expressed his admiration for Varma’s amazing start while revealing that it gave him chills.

India loses against West Indies by four runs.Team India lost the opening T20I in Trinidad despite Tilak’s outstanding play. West Indies struggled to get going when they batted first, but Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell performed a great job in the middle, allowing the home team to score 149 runs.
India lost wickets like a house of cards throughout the chase, but Tilak’s performance kept the team in the contest. The Hardik Pandya-led team, though, lost the game by four runs after he was out, and things were dicey once more.
