India against. West Indies, first One Day International, Stats Review: India's tyranny over the West Indies, Kuldeep Yadav's achievement, and other stats

In the first of three ODIs at Bridgetown, India defeated West Indies by five wickets thanks to seven wickets from the combination of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav and a conservative fifty from Ishan Kishan. In the series, India is up 1-0.

Speaking of the match, the visitor chose to go first when the coin was flipped in their favor. As Kyle Mayers was out for 2 off 9 balls, Hardik Pandya took the initial hit. With a 38-run partnership for the second wicket, Alick Athanaze and Brandan King kept the scoreboard moving till Athanaze fell to Mukesh Kumar’s début as his first victim and King was dismissed by Shardul Thakur in the very next over.

After the powerplay ended, the left-arm spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja shook up the West Indies batting by taking seven wickets between them, dismissing WI for 114 runs.

The lone batter that displayed promise was Shai Hope, who scored 43 points off of 45 balls. Jadeja finished up the innings with a session of 3/37, and Kuldeep Yadav brought it to a close with a spell of 4/6.

In order to test their batting before the World Cup

Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India as they chased 115. The strategy failed when Shubman Gill lost his wicket to Jayden Seales for 7 runs, continuing his poor trend. Suryakumar Yadav, who was moved to position three, got off to a strong start, scoring 19 runs before being bowled by Gudakesh Motie, while Hardik Pandya was cheaply run out for 5 runs.

Ishan Kishan scored his fourth fifty before falling for 52 off 46 to Motie for his second victim. Rohit Sharma was forced to bat since India was left at 97/5. In order to get India across the finish line with 5 wickets, Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma made sure there were no more mistakes in the wickets department.

In the meantime, have a look at the statistics and data from the first One Day International between India and the West Indies.

Ravindra Jadeja (44) eclipsed Kapil Dev’s 43 wickets against the West Indies to become the player with the most wickets for India.

West Indies’ (114) ODI total against India was their second-lowest ever. In 2018, Thiruvananthapuram saw its lowest total, 104.

West Indies batted for the second-fewest amount of overs in an ODI, 23; they were bowled out in that time. The least number of overs they ever batted in an ODI all-out innings was 22, against Bangladesh at Chattogram in 2011.

The number of overs required by India to bowl out the opposition, 23, is tied for third-lowest in the world. West Indies were dismissed in 23 overs.

1 – This was the first time that India’s left-arm spinners had seven or more ODI wickets.

3. West Indies’ 114 against India ranks third among their lowest totals in ODIs played at home. The highest score is 98 against Pakistan at Providence in 2013, followed by 108 against Bangladesh at the same site in 2022.

9 – India’s ODI victory over the West Indies was their ninth straight victory.

Despite losing five or more wickets, India overcame West Indies with 163 balls remaining, the second-most number of balls. Sri Lanka leads the list against Australia, winning the match with 180 balls remaining.
