Beginning on July 16, 2023, at the Galle International Stadium, Sri Lanka will host Pakistan for a two-match Test Series. Both teams’ inaugural series in the WTC 2023–2025 cycle will be this one.
With some outstanding performances in the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers, Sri Lanka, the host nation, will enter the match. By winning eight games on-Trott and bowling the opposition out for 250 runs or less in each of their eight games, they not only qualified for the World Cup but did so in style.
Pathum Nissanka, who has been absent from the team for a few series, has been called up for the tour, while Dilshan Madushanka, one of the largest purchases of the LPL, has been given the red-ball duty and is anticipated to make his debut in the opening game. Sri Lanka and Pakistan have faced off in five series since 2014, winning two each, with one series ending in a draw. SL will attempt to keep up its winning streak.
Pakistan, on the other hand, will enter the series after putting on a fairly dismal performance in WTC 2021–23, failing to win a single home game and ultimately finishing in the bottom half of the standings. Last year, they were able to draw the series in Sri Lanka. The most recent series Pakistan played was against New Zealand, which they won 4-1.
While Shaheen Afridi was given the all-clear and will be making a comeback to the Test team after a year away, Sarfaraz Ahmed enjoyed his Test return with a brilliant batting performance, accumulating 335 runs at an average of 83.75 in four innings. Pakistan will attempt to begin their campaign on a successful way.
