The South Zone needed something special from the ball in the ongoing Duleep Trophy final after being knocked out for 213 in the first inning, and teenage bowler Vidwath Kaverappa delivered.
In the present Duleep Trophy final, the 24-year-old gave West Zone a commanding lead by taking seven wickets in their first innings. Cheteshwar Pujara, Suryakumar Yadav, and Sarfaraz Khan were among the crucial wickets he got, and South Zone subsequently gained a significant lead of 67 runs as a result.
Notably, Kaverappa, a Karnataka native, has taken 46 first-class wickets in 12 games. The bowler was signed by the Punjab Kings prior to the IPL 2023; however, he was unable to play for the team in any of the games. He played with the Gulbarga Mystics in the domestic T20 league of Karnataka last season, when he helped his side win the championship in its inaugural year.
Since that time, the cricketer has remained unnoticed, but in the Duleep Trophy final, he displayed his class and completely destroyed West Zone’s batting lineup. He most recently went to Namibia with his state team, where he took six wickets in four one-day internationals that Karnataka played against Namibia’s national squad. In Karnataka cricket, he is regarded as the up-and-coming star, and his accomplishments have lived up to the anticipation.
Hanuma Vihari performs admirably as the South Zone dominates the summit battle.
Hanuma Vihari, captain of the South Zone, performed very well in the first inning and then again in the second. It is noteworthy because South Zone lost two quick wickets in their second innings, but Mayank Agarwal and Vihari were able to save the team. After scoring 35 and 42 runs in the second inning, respectively, Mayank and Vihari are both back in the hutch.
West Zone’s Arzan Nagwaswalla was outstanding throughout his opening term, but his team seems to have lost its momentum. To make a comeback in the game, they now require some extremely excellent ball handling performances.
