On Day 2 of the Headingley Test, according to former England captain Eoin Morgan, the Australians didn’t bat like the team that was winning the match. After dismissing England for 237, the Pat Cummins-led team finished the third Test of the Ashes 2023 on day two with a score of 116/4. In their first inning, the visitors were dismissed for 263 runs by bowling.

David Warner, the Australians’ renowned opener, was cheaply bowled by Stuart Broad when they came to play in their second inning after bowling the opposition out and holding a 26-run lead. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne remained on the field for a while, but Moeen Ali quickly dismissed Labuschagne and Steve Smith. While Khawaja appeared to be in control, he was lagging behind on Chris Woakes’ ball for 43.

Eoin Morgan noted that the Pat Cummins-led team was well ahead of them in the game while discussing Australia’s strategy for Day 2. He said that they could have pushed their advantage further.

While talking to Sky Sports, Morgan stated, “I subscribe to the view that when you are on top, you really try and hammer it home.”

“Over the years, we have grown accustomed to this Australian team being so upbeat that when they attempt to play the long game or defensively, you immediately wonder, ‘What is going on here?'” I admit, I was somewhat taken aback. I don’t believe Australia did that, he continued. “You can be persistent and make small gains on the scoreboard.

The ex-cricketer-turned-commentator stated, “They didn’t bat like a side who is leading the game because that is where I perceive them at the moment.

The visitors will undoubtedly try to increase their lead of 142 runs with the help of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh in the first inning. Australia is now leading the series 2-0; if they win this match, it will be Australia’s first Ashes victory in England since 2001. England is currently 0-2 in the series.
