It’s important to bring back the joy of playing for the West Indies: Joel Garner

Joel Garner
Joel Garner, a former West Indies player, has talked about how he feels about the chaos in West Indies cricket after their loss to Scotland in the ODI World Cup Qualifiers. Notably, the Windies won’t be at the ODI World Cup in India in 2023 because they did so poorly in the qualifiers.

After losing by seven wickets to Scotland, the West Indies reached their lowest point in cricket history because they could no longer prepare for the biggest event in India. In 1979, the Windies won the World Cup under the leadership of the great Clive Llyod. In an interview, former Windies cricketer Joel Garner talked about the present state of the national team and explained why the team from the Caribbean is in trouble.

“We’re not who we used to be, right? When I was younger, I was very proud to play for the West Indies. It was what drove us. Younger players are now becoming more interested in T20 events. “No blame on them, because everyone looks around for safety,” Joel Garner told NDTV.

“Our generation didn’t get a lot of money either. Most of it came from county cricket.” But now, players have many ways to make money, and they can’t be blamed for taking advantage of them. “We have to bring back the pride of playing for the West Indies,” he said.

Since our standards have dropped, it doesn’t hurt. Gordon Greenidge
Gordon Greenidge, who was also in the interview and is considered one of the best batters to come out of the West Indies, said something pretty harsh about the Men in Maroon’s recent efforts.

“See! I don’t watch as much cricket as I used to, especially not the games with the white ball. Before, when the West Indies lost, it hurt a lot. Now, though, it doesn’t hurt as much because our standards have dropped over time. But yes, it’s hard to think of a World Cup without the West Indies. Greenidge said, “We have no more depth to hit.”
