This is The Ashes, not a practise match! - Kevin Pietersen's instruction to England's bowlers prior to the second day of the Lord's Test

Former cricketer Kevin Pietersen has urged England to rise to the occasion and seize the initiative against Australia on the second day of the second Ashes Test currently being played at Lord’s. The host team’s performance on the first day was disappointing.

This comes one day after Kevin Pietersen harshly criticised the team’s performance and strategy, labelling them “shambolic.” He instructed the team to cease being so polite to Australians and quickly take the final five wickets.

In his tweet, Kevin Pietersen expressed:

“Get it together, @Englandcricket! Today, be confident and challenge the Australians. Stop being so polite and embrace your wild side! Take 5 wickets swiftly and bat effectively! This is The Ashes, not a practise match!”

During the Tea break on the first day of the Lord’s Test, Kevin Pietersen criticised England for being too complacent and friendly, lacking the urgency to challenge the Australian batters aggressively.

“The Australian batters were eager to bat prior to the English bowlers. The English bowlers should have been prepared this morning, proclaiming, “We fervently desire to dismiss Australia.” These two Australian batsmen were present and awaiting England’s arrival. They should have been in the room yelling “No, no!” Wait, we do not wish to bat.

“It’s all too effortless and cordial,” Kevin Pietersen had previously stated.

The former England captain also demanded that head coach Brendon McCullum severely admonish the team for its lacklustre performance on the pitch during the first two sessions.

England is in a perilous position after the first day of the Lord’s Ashes Test. They elected to bat first in overcast conditions in the hopes of achieving early success. Their efforts were in futile, however, as Usman Khawaja stood his ground and David Warner effortlessly reached fifty.

Subsequently, the spotlight shifted to Steven Smith, who displayed his batting prowess from the very beginning. First with Marnus Labuschagne, and then with Travis Head, he forged crucial partnerships. Despite the fact that Joe Root took two fast wickets late in the day, Australia ended the first day at 339 for five.

Day 1 concluded with Australia in command, but Joe Root’s late double-strike gave England hope. The English bowlers must formulate a strategy to surpass Smith’s brilliance and eliminate the lower order. Australia currently holds a 1-0 advantage in the five-match Ashes series.
