WV Raman has questioned why Cheteshwar Pujara wasn’t included in India’s Test team for their upcoming tour of the West Indies. Pujara didn’t make the team because he played poorly in the final of the 2023 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) against Australia earlier this month.
Rohit Sharma and his team will play the West Indies in two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is during their visit. India’s first job in the new WTC 2023-25 cycle will be the two-match Test series. On July 12, the first Test is set to take place in Dominica.
In a video on Aakash Chopra’s YouTube account WV Raman talked about why Pujara was left out. The 58-year-old says the problem is that the pickers chose four likely starters but left out Pujara, which is another point of contention. He also said that Pujara has done a lot for Indian cricket and has helped the team win both at home and abroad.
“The trouble is that they have chosen four possible openers but not Cheteshwar Pujara, which is another source of disagreement. Raman said, “A cricketer like Pujara has done a lot for Indian cricket, and he has helped India win both at home and abroad quite a few times.”
WV Raman Pujara is a tough customer.
The former starter also said that Pujara was recently made vice-captain, but his loss in the WTC final has put him out in the cold. He went on to say that he thinks this is a choice that many people don’t like, and that he doesn’t like it either.
“He is a tough client. He was recently made vice-captain, but after a bad performance in the WTC final, he is now on his own. I think this is a move that didn’t go over well with a lot of people, and I’m not for it either,” he said.
In December 2022, in the first Test against Bangladesh, Pujara had scores of 90 and 102, both of which were unbeaten. But in his next ten games, the 35-year-old could only score one fifty.
