Ashes 2023: Steve Smith becomes the second fastest player to hit 9000 runs in Test cricket.

Steve Smith went into the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston after scoring a hundred against India in the final of the World Test Championship. In the Edgbaston Test, however, the best batsman from Australia was not able to show who was boss. In his two innings, he was out for 16 and 6. Australia, on the other hand, beat their biggest foes by two wickets and won the game.

Australia batted first in the second Test at Lord’s because England won the toss. The score was 96-2 when Smith walked up to bat, and he made it clear right away that he meant business. With the help of three beautiful boundaries, he got to 24 in just 15 balls.

Steve Smith hit Ben Stokes between mid-wicket and mid-on for a boundary with the first ball of the 42nd over, bringing his total to 9000 Test runs. In his 99th Test match, he was able to do it. The right-hander became the player with the fewest games played to make the 9000-run club. He beat the record set by Brian Lara, who did it in his 101st Test match. In terms of runs, the former Australian captain passed Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-fastest player after him. Smith did it in his 174th game, while the Sri Lankan batter did it in his 172nd.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne lead Australia to Tea.

According to the ICC ranks, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith are two of the best batters in Test cricket. Both hitters didn’t score in the first Test, but they have made a strong comeback at Lord’s.

The score was 96/2 when Australia’s first two games were over. Smith and Labuschagne have kept the World Test Champions on track, and they are in a good spot at 190/2 at Tea on Day 1.

Labuschagne is still unbeaten with 45 runs after 80 balls, while his older partner has 38 runs after 70 balls. In the third session, England will have to make some progress.
