On Tuesday, June 27, the BCCI and the ICC officially announced the schedule for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
As many as 10 cities have been approved to host the mega event. But Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said he was upset that Mohali wasn’t one of the places where the game would be held.
In 2011, India co-hosted the ODI World Cup with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Three of the games were played at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. But the fans in Mohali lost all hope when the venue didn’t get any matches in the upcoming ODI marquee event. Gurmeet Singh said that ‘political interference’ was probably the reason why Mohali wasn’t on the list of host towns.

Mohali, which is in Punjab, was not on the list of cities that would hold the tournament because politics got in the way. He stated that the Punjab government would discuss the issue with the BCCI in a video that the government of Punjab shared.
Nagpur, Indore, and other places will be left out.
In addition to Mohali’s IS Bindra Stadium and Indore’s Holkar Stadium, Nagpur’s Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium (Jamtha) and Cuttack’s Holkar Stadium have also held ICC tournament games in the past. This time, however, they didn’t get a game. Many people are upset that they didn’t get the chance to host the event, but it’s clear that the ICC made a smart choice.
When talking about Indore, the Holkar Stadium on Race Course Road is in the city centre. Because the VIP class road won’t be open to traffic during matches, it might be hard for people to get around.
For Nagpur, VCA Stadium is in Jamtha, which is far from the city. This makes it hard for teams and tournament organisers to get there and back, which could be why it wasn’t included on the list of tournament sites. Even though the exact reasons for the removal were not given, it should be noted that India has more famous cricket grounds than any other country. Because of this, the ICC and the BCCI decided on host cities as a group.
