Sanju Samson hasn't lived up to his full promise yet: Ravi Shastri

Sanju Samson is one of the guys who has never been on the Indian team for a long time. The bowler was on the team for the series against New Zealand, but he was left off when the team went to Bangladesh. Now, he is back on the team for the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies. Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul will not be playing, so he will have another chance to show what he can do. If he does well, the stumper-batsman could very well secure his spot in the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of India, said that Sanju Samson, who is 28 years old, has not yet reached his full ability. Shastri said that the Kerala-born bowler is a game-winner and that he will be sad if he doesn’t become a star player by the end of his career.

“Sanju Samson hasn’t lived up to his full promise yet. He’s a game-changer.

Something seems to be missing. I will be sad if he doesn’t go out with a bang at the end of his career. If Rohit Sharma hadn’t been a regular Test player on my team when I was the coach, I would have been unhappy. So, he went up to bat first. The Week reported that Shastri said, “I feel the same way as Sanju.”

You’re getting hurt a lot these days, so you should always be ready. Shastri

Ravi Shastri thinks that since players like KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and Prasidh Krishna aren’t playing right now, the team should always have a pool of 15-20 players ready to go. Shastri said that he kept Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar ready for the 2020–21 Border Gavaskar Trophy. Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar went on to play important roles in the fourth Test against Australia at the Gabba.

“These days, you hurt yourself a lot. I always like a group of 15–20 people. You should always be ready for anything, and you should have a plan B and a plan C. For example, we took about 30 players to that famous game in Australia in 2021. Shardul Thakur and I think it was Washi (Washington Sundar) who were talking to me on the trip.

“And I told him, ‘This isn’t a vacation. Don’t think that this is a holiday where you can play bowling with a net. Playing is always an option. So start getting ready right away.’ And, lo and behold, here comes the last Test with no one else to choose. Shastri added, “These guys play and do a great job.”
