Ravi Shastri on India’s ICC trophy drought: “Can’t blame a single player or captain; we need a team effort.”

Ravi Shastri on India's ICC trophy drought: "Can't blame a single player or captain; we need a team effort."

Despite attempting new combinations, strategies, and even coaches and commanders, India has not won an ICC trophy since 2013, prompting some fans to label the team “chokers.” Former India head coach Ravi Shastri disagrees with this assertion. The 1983 World Cup-winning cricketer remarked that the team is playing well but is unable to capitalise when it matters.

The reason for India’s failure, according to Ravi Shastri, is that not everyone is exerting equal effort.

Ravi Shastri stated that only India and Australia were the favourites to win all three cups in the recent past, but that the Indian batters’ inability to perform on the major stage was the cause of India’s failure at ICC events.

“I wouldn’t say that (choking).” The only two teams with the possibility of winning all three World Cups were India and Australia, who were competing against each other. And it’s not as if we’ve been defeated at World Cups. We have participated in semi-finals and finals. We do not have it because, in order to obtain the big prize, a group effort is required. The former India head coach stated in an interview with The Week that you cannot criticise a single person or captain.

“In a World Cup or World Test Championship final, you need hundreds. Then there is a good possibility that you will set up the bowlers and win the trophy. In Test, T20, and one-day cricket, if you do not score a century, you must score at least three 50s. “If you have not accomplished this, you do not deserve to win,” he continued.

India is once again the favourite to win the forthcoming ODI World Cup. The Rohit Sharma-led squad will be anxious to see KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah return to health before the major tournament.
