Elections for the Pakistan Cricket Board are reportedly postponed as two former members petition the Lahore High Court.

Two members of the former management committee reportedly filed a petition with the Lahore High Court, delaying the appointment of the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

According to reports, on Monday, June 26, the High Court will hear two petitions filed by former Pakistan Cricket Board members, Shakil Sheikh and Gul Zada, challenging the election process to appoint Zaka Ashraf as chairman and the legality of the Board of Governors (BOG) that would determine the new leader. In addition, the former members have asked the judge to suspend the elections and the BOG until the verdict is announced.

Following the alterations to the BOG, the election commissioner and interim chairman have decided to hold the election on Tuesday, June 27 (Tuesday), according to a source from the PCB.

NDTV quoted a member of the board as saying, “It is a tricky situation because the election commissioner and acting Chairman of the board has set June 27 as the date for holding elections for a new Chairman following changes to the Board of Governors.”

You do not wish to become a source of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif: Sethi Zaka Ashraf, who served as chairman of the governing body from 2011 to 2013, is anticipated to assume the position again after being nominated by the PCB’s patron-in-chief, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. In 2012, Ashraf faced identical legal issues from former chairman Najam Sethi and was even asked to resign from his position by the Supreme Court.

Notably, incumbent Sethi withdrew from the election contest this time, indicating he does not wish to be a point of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. He added that such instability and unpredictability are detrimental to the board, and therefore he is not a candidate for PCB Chairmanship. Notably, following this, the PCB patron-in-chief proposed Ashraf and Mustafa Ramday as candidates to the BOG.
