When Stuart Broad was omitted for the first Ashes Test in Australia during the previous series, many questioned the decision. On Day 4 of the ongoing Edgbaston Test, Broad once again demonstrated his mettle by bowling one of the year’s finest periods.
After David Warner and Usman Khawaja established a solid foundation with a 61-run stand in the final session of Day 4, it was crucial for England to make inroads before the end of the day. Ollie Robinson strode forward as Warner was dismissed for 36. After his dismissal, Stuart Broad was free to inflict havoc. The veteran pacer bowled with impeccable line and length and caused the ball to swing in both directions with remarkable precision. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith attempted to survive two outswinging pitches, but were ultimately caught behind.
Harry Brook, Stuart Broad teammate, praised the veteran while commenting on the potentially match-winning spell. Brook stated that he believed Broad would take a wicket with every delivery.
“It was tasty. It appeared that Broad would take a wicket with every ball. Especially when we finally got it to sway at the end. In a video that England Cricket’s Twitter account posted, Broad’s teammate Harry Brook said, “He was phenomenal then, and hopefully he can continue that tomorrow.”
“The way we are conducting business is enjoyable, and I have never had more fun in a dressing room. To be a part of this era and to witness what the boys have accomplished over the past year has been phenomenal. I haven’t had as much fun playing cricket in the last six months as I have in the past.”

The game is in the balance as Australia needs 174 runs to win with seven wickets remaining on Day 5. Harry Brook appeared confident in his team’s ability to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The teenager believes that early wickets will be crucial in the morning session.
“Obviously, I will be biassed and predict that we will triumph. We hope to take a couple of early wickets in the morning and then attempt to run them through.”
On Day 5, Usman Khawaja (34*) and Scott Boland (13*) will recommence Australia’s innings with the score at 107/3.
