I would stick with Rohit because I believe he is an excellent captain: Michael Clarke

Since India’s loss in the final of the World Test Championship, Rohit Sharma’s status as Test captain has been questioned.

Under Rohit, this is the second time India has lost in the quarterfinals of an ICC tournament. Last year, under Rohit’s leadership, the Men in Blue were eliminated in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.

Michael Clarke, the 2019 ODI World Cup-winning captain, has come out in support of Rohit, despite all the predictions and rumours regarding his future stewardship. Clarke believed that India’s appearance in consecutive WTC finals is a commendable accomplishment and that Rohit’s credentials as a captain should not be evaluated based on a single match.

“I would remain loyal to Rohit, as I believe he is an excellent commander. I appreciate his aggressive approach; he appears to be as optimistic as possible. The fact that India did not win the Test World Championship does not imply that Rohit is not the right person to lead India, the New South Wales native told RevSports.

In addition, Michael Clarke highlights two significant aspects of Rohit Sharma. The Australian believes he should not be judged based on a single WTC final. Moreover, he emphasised that playing in two consecutive finals is a monumental accomplishment that requires four years of consistently excellent cricket play. Therefore, India’s loss in the ultimate match does not render them a bad team. In addition, he praised Sharma’s batting and recalled his century from the previous series.

Since assuming the role of captain, he has won a home Test series against Australia. He has also performed well as a batsman. Consider his hundred in the previous series. The fact that he lost a single final does not make him a poor captain, nor does it make India a bad team. Making consecutive finals is difficult. This implies that India was the only team to perform consistently well over a four-year period. To do so in Test cricket is commendable, and I advise you to take that into account prior to making any sort of judgement,” Clarke continued.

I’m rooting for Australia to triumph.

Michael Clarke, age 42, gave his opinion on how the Ashes have begun. In the ongoing first Test at Edgbaston, neither England nor Australia have conceded any ground. Clarke was pleased with the fiery start to the Ashes, but he also stated that he was not surprised, given that two elite teams are competing.

“The Ashes have gotten off to a fantastic start; both teams are playing excellent Test cricket. This is what you would expect from a series of this calibre, said the former Australian captain.

“England continue to play the same style of cricket they have for the past year, and the Australians are finding a means to counteract that. This is going to be a fantastic series, but of course I’m rooting for Australia,” Clarke concluded.
