Ashes 2023: James Anderson rips through Alex Carey's security to get his 1100th first-class wicket.

On Day 3 of the first Ashes Test, England and Australia kept going back and forth in their fight. Australia started the day on 311/5, with Usman Khawaja (126*) and Alex Carey (52*) at the crease. The two kept adding quick runs early in the day to cut the 82-run gap between them and the rest of the team.

Carey looked great as he sent James Anderson to the boundary twice in a row and moved the score into the 60s.

But the experienced seamer made an amazing comeback when he threw a ball that swung in from around the wicket, got through Carey’s defense, and hit his stumps. With this out, James Anderson had taken his 1100th wicket in first-class cricket, adding another feather to his already impressive cap. Carey was also Anderson’s 685th victim in a test match. This means that the famous seamer is only 15 victims away from reaching 700 victims.

When their team was in trouble at 220/5 on Day 2, Khawaja and Carey added 118 runs to the sixth wicket. This got them out of danger. After he was out, Pat Cummins joined Khawaja, and the two of them added 34 runs to the score. This was the seventh wicket.

But things slowed down in the middle because England’s captain, Ben Stokes, set up a tight pitch that made it hard for both hitters to score. Khawaja’s 141-run innings came to an end when he tried to get through the crowded pitch and lost his stumps. This was the end of the pressure.

After the main man was out, the English seamers threw a lot of bouncers at the rest of the Aussie batsmen. Nathan Lyon (1), Scott Boland (0), and Cummins (38) were all out quickly, so the plan worked. Australia ended their turn with 383 runs, which was seven runs behind. The best bowlers for the hosts were Stuart Broad (3/68) and Ollie Robinson (3/55). At the end of the first inning, the test is tied, and both teams will fight hard in the second inning to win.
