"If you ask me, Test cricket is the highest level of the game," says Chandika Hathurusingha. She thinks that playing Test for her country is enough reason before the Dhaka Test.
In the same way, Bangladesh’s head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, spoke out before the one-off Test match against Afghanistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday, June 14.

In modern times, test cricket isn’t as popular unless it’s part of the ICC World Test Championship. Also, franchise-based T20 fights were happening all over the world, while Test cricket was struggling to stay alive. But after the World Trade Center was built, the game made a comeback. T20 cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) in particular have made sports more entertaining while taking attention away from what they were originally meant to do. It definitely brings in more money than ever before for the groups. Even though T20 matches are beautiful, exciting, and well-staged, they only last for 20 minutes.

This may be fun for the audience, but test cricket is what cricket players and fans really love. The match will not be part of the WTC, which is important to know. He also said that players are put to the test in Test cricket, even though other forms are growing. So, test cricket is still the best when it comes to skill and competition.

“Test cricket is the best part of the game, if you ask me. Even if other forms become more popular in the future,. As a cricket player, you know that test cricket is a test of your skills. As a bowler, a batter, or a fielder, it has tried everything about you: your skills, your mind, your strength, etc. According to Hathurusingha, “So, if you really want to be proud to play for your country, there’s no better format than tests.”

We actually gave red-ball cricket the most attention for a while. Chandika Hathurusingha

He also talked about the ICC World Test Championship, which was just over. Chandika Hathurusingha thinks that the biggest task in Test cricket is for a player to change his or her mind and adapt to the conditions. The Bangladesh head coach also said that India probably didn’t have enough time to prepare for the final match because they went to England right after the IPL. But the Bengal Tigers’ one-off test will be played at home, and the team is well-prepared, so they won’t have to worry about getting used to the circumstances.

“When preparing for this game, we put red-ball cricket first for a while, which is how we train. I don’t see why that would be hard. But to answer your question about the Test Championship, I think it’s hard for players to switch from T20 cricket to Test cricket without a little bit of time to prepare. So, I get that India didn’t have much time to prepare because they went straight from the IPL and the conditions are different. So, I don’t think that will happen to us,” Hathurusingha said in the end.
