The World Test Championship final (WTC) 2023 concludes with Pat Cummins-led Australia penning history and claiming the title after defeating India by 209 runs in the summit match. Throughout the five days that the match was played, a multitude of moments made headlines.

Day 4’s second-inning demise of star Indian batter Shubman Gill was one of the most discussed moments of the match. Gill had scored 18 runs before nicking a delivery from Scott Boland into the clutches of Cameron Green.

As the decision reached the third umpire, many believed that the ball was visibly striking the ground when Green caught it. Gill was sent back to the pavilion despite the fact that the decision was ruled out. In order to clarify the situation, captain Pat Cummins came forward to defend Green and even stated that it was a legitimate capture.

“They are passionate fans, but I felt it was a fair catch. It was a screamer, and obviously we’re just players; we’re on the pitch, so we leave it up to the umpire, who is, in my opinion, the best in the world; he knows the rule books and has seen every angle. Pat Cummins was quoted by Stuff.co.nz as saying, “I’d probably support his decision more than emotionally charged, fervent fans watching on a giant screen from 100 metres away.”

India’s loss in the WTC final was precipitated by a lacklustre batting performance.
Australia set an enormous 444-run target for the Indian team in their pursuit of the World Test Championship. However, upon attempting to pursue the target, India fell victim to the Australian bowlers’ relentless assault.

Having lost three wickets by the close of the fourth day, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane sought to lead their team to victory. However, the early dismissal of the batters contributed to the team’s demise once more, and they were eventually run out for 234 runs. Australia defeats India by a 204-run margin in the WTC 2023 final as a result of this dominating performance, which amounted to a complete rout.
