Rohit Sharma talks about India's sad loss in the WTC final: "We were behind in the game for all four days."
At the end of Day 5 of the WTC 2023 final, Rohit Sharma, India, lost heart. On day 5, Australia was trying to catch up to 280 runs. Scott Boland got rid of Virat Kohli very early in the day’s play, showing that they were the better team.

Also, after the first wicket, the whole team was out for 234 runs because the Aussie bowlers kept coming at them so hard that the Indian team couldn’t handle it. Australia won the game by a score of 209 runs and won the World Test Championship for the first time.

After the painful loss, the captain, Rohit Sharma, came out to talk about the game. The 36-year-old thought that India was behind on all four days of play and that they lost because they couldn’t follow their game plan.

“After the first practice, we thought we had a good chance of getting them out quickly, but two of their batters, Steve Smith and Travis Head, did well. We were a little off from what we had planned, and we didn’t do what we had on that pitch, which had a lot of help. We didn’t get that done. We were 160–170 runs behind after the first inn. Rohit Sharma said in the press meeting after the game that they wanted to get them out as soon as possible in the second inning.

“One reason we thought it might be a good idea to bat last was that we thought the pitch wouldn’t change much and would keep getting better. We talked a lot about how we wanted to bowl and bat, but we didn’t do that. We didn’t know what to do or what not to do, so we were always behind,” he said.

In Australia’s second innings, experienced spinner Nathan Lyon took the most wickets. He got rid of Srikar Bharat, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Rohit Sharma. In addition, Scott Boland got three wickets, Mitchell Starc got two, and Pat Cummins got one.
