Mitchell Starc says of Ajinkya Rahane's tough 89 in the WTC final, "We know he can play like that."

Mitchell Starc, an Australian fast bowler, said that Indian hitter Ajinkya Rahane‘s 89 in the World Test Championship final at the Oval in London was great. The Indian team was in trouble until Rahane’s tough knock helped them dodge the follow-on and get to 296 in the first inning.

Rahane, on the other hand, got praise from fans and past cricket players after he changed how he played. Even though India lost a lot of wickets in the first innings, Rahane didn’t feel any pressure as he faced off against the Australian fast bowlers.

Rahane needed to bowl six overs against Pat Cummins before reaching his fifty, despite the fact that the Australian pacers hit him hard and injured his finger. Mitchell Starc, an Australian speedster, said that Australia knew how good he was and that it would take a very good catch to get rid of him.

Rahane had to be caught in a unique way to get him out: Mitchell Starc

“He did a great job. We know that Jinks [Ajinkya Rahane] can play like that because we’ve seen it in other games. He came in to bat at a hard time, but he and Shardul Thakur were able to take some of the load there, build an innings, and play really well. So, it took a great catch to get him out, and that partnership probably made it harder for us to bowl, but I think they both played well,” Starc told the press.

“Jinx was probably a little bit more, you know. He waited for a bad ball, built his innings, and then made a nice combination. So, we know what a good player he is and what he’s done in the past, and we hope to get him out early in the second inning,” he said.

Rahane, on the other hand, was kicked off the Indian team in January 2017 after a string of bad performances in the longest version. Since then, the 35-year-old has played some great knocks in local cricket and helped the Chennai Super Kings win the IPL title in 2023.
