Karim Janat

The selectors have once again given Afghanistan all-rounder Karim Janat a chance to distinguish himself in the longest format of the game because he is currently in outstanding form. Notably, during the four-day Ahmad Shah Abdali tournament, Karim Janat scored 561 runs with an average of 140.25, including two centuries and four fifties. The 24-year-old also has 18 wickets, placing him in a tie for third place among wicket-takers this season.

Due to his extraordinary performances, he has been selected for Afghanistan’s solitary test against Bangladesh. Janat was called up for the 2019 Test series against the West Indies, but he was not selected to participate. However, four years later, the all-rounder is about to play his first Test, and prior to that, he discussed his desire to play red-ball cricket and what Test cricket ultimately means to him.

“I am extremely excited to return to the test squad. I was included in the Test squad against the West Indies in 2019 but did not play, so I am evaluating my chances of playing in future matches. But to be part of a Test series’ 15-man squad is a huge deal for a player, and I am ecstatic about that,” Janat told Cricbuzz.

Since spinners dominate the pitch in Afghanistan, I specifically practiced Sweep: Janat.
In addition, Karim Janat described how he prepared for a tournament. In a similar vein, the all-rounder stated that because the wickets in Afghanistan favour spinners, he honed his sweep stroke in preparation for the most recent first-class competition. Consequently, he conducted his business online while bearing the conditions in mind.

“When there is a tournament in front of you, you prepare differently, and I did the same for the highest level of competition. Spinners typically dominate the Afghanistan first-class cricket wicket. I was very specific about it, and when I practiced in the net, I usually kept that in mind, such as when I practiced sweeps (to score runs against spinners).”

Notably, the one-off Test match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan will commence in Mirpur on June 14. After the conclusion of the test, the two teams will compete in a three-match ODI and two-match T20I series.
