Shubman Gill discusses the joys and challenges of his rapid transition from T20 to Test cricket.
In the just-concluded Indian Premier League, the youngster Shubman Gill displayed extraordinary cricket skills. In 17 matches, the opener scored 890 runs, which is the second-highest total in the history of the competition. However, the 23-year-old wants to put that behind him and focus on the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia, which is scheduled to commence at The Oval on June 7.

Gill remarked that the transition from a prolonged T20 tournament to Test cricket is both enjoyable and difficult, but that it is also a lot of fun. His performance in the IPL will undoubtedly bolster his confidence moving forward, but he is aware that Test cricket is an entirely different game and the conditions in England will be vastly different from those in India.

“It does give you a bit of confidence (from the IPL), but I believe this is a completely different scenario and competition, but that’s the fun of it. “Last week, we played something completely different in a completely different atmosphere, and that is the challenge and excitement of Test cricket,” Gill told the ICC.

Hopefully, we will be able to avoid repeating our previous errors. Shubman Gill
In the previous iteration of the World Test Championship final, India lost to New Zealand by eight wickets, and Gill stated that the entire team discussed the loss and that they would attempt to correct their mistakes this time around.

“We have been discussing what we have learned as a team, particularly as a batting unit, from playing that match. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to learn from our past mistakes,” Gill concluded.

Notably, Gill scored 28 and 8 runs in both innings, but he has since matured to become one of the few Indian cricketers in the last two years to score centuries in all three formats of the game.
