The World Test Championship final between India and Australia will begin on June 7 at the Oval in London. Australia finished first in the WTC points classification with a percentage of 66.67 points, while India finished second with a percentage of 58.8 points. Notably, India will be making their second consecutive appearance in the final after losing the inaugural edition to New Zealand by eight wickets.

The 2021 WTC championship was extended to a third day due to rain that flooded out the entire two-day competition. Also this year, a reserve has been set aside in case rain disrupts any of the five days of the championship. The reserve day will be utilized if there is a significant decline in net playing time or overs over the course of the first five days of the match. Every test has a net playing duration of 30 hours, or six hours per day, or 90 overs per day.

What will occur if the WTC final is a tie?

Despite the use of the reserve day, if the game concludes in a tie, the trophy will be split between the two teams. The team that finishes with the most points will have no advantage heading into the championship game, and only a victory will enable a team to claim the coveted trophy.

India is presently the top-ranked Test cricket team in the world and has defeated Australia in their last four consecutive series. Prior to the match, the Rohit Sharma-led side is missing key players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul due to injury. After two months of nonstop IPL play, India’s players will not be as fresh for the upcoming match.

On the other hand, the majority of Australian players did not participate in the IPL and will enter the summit match after two months of recuperation. Therefore, they may have an advantage prior to the championship match.
