Gary Kirsten, the coach of the Gujarat Titans, said it would be wrong to compare Shubman Gill to Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli so soon.

Gary Kirsten, the coach of the Gujarat Titans and a former India coach who has worked with great batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, said that it would be “unfair” to keep Gill on the same level as the other two. However, he did say that Gill has the potential to become a good all-format player. He said that Gill is one of the few cricket players in the world who can change his style to fit all three types of games.

Shubman Gill, the star opener for Team India, had a great performance in the most recent Indian Premier League. Gill scored 890 runs, including three hundreds, and was very important for the Gujarat Titans in the playoffs. After the 23-year-old starter scored 129 runs in 60 balls against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2, fans and experienced cricket players were talking about how good he could be. Gill had the second-most runs in an IPL season, just behind Virat Kohli’s 973 runs in the 2016 season.

At the end of the event, he was named the Most Valuable Player. Gill’s success in T20s was one of the most talked-about things about the IPL in 2023, even though the Titans lost the final game to the Chennai Super Kings. He won the Orange Cap for his amazing season at the bat, in which he scored 890 runs in 17 games with an average of 59.33 and a hit rate of 157.80.

“He’s a young player with a lot of talent and drive to become one of the best in the world. So early in his career, it wouldn’t be fair to compare him to Sachin and Virat. I think he has the skills to play well for India in all three forms. You don’t see that very often anymore, especially since T20 cricket is growing and changing so quickly,” Gary Kirsten said on Cricbuzz.

I would tell him to continue to learn: Gary Kirsten

Kirsten thinks that Gill’s “long-term success” as a player will depend on how he handles the problems and issues he faces in the future.

“In all forms, Shubman has everything he needs to become a great player for India. Like any other player, he will face problems and setbacks. How he deals with them and keeps moving forward will determine his long-term success. I would tell him to keep learning and to spend time with people who can give him good advice,” he said.

In the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at the Oval on June 7, India will be hoping that Gill will keep up his perfect form.
