As Australia prepares to play England in the Ashes series, both teams will be eager to remain at the top of their games in advance of the highly anticipated series. England would attempt to reclaim the emblematic urn after suffering a 4-0 loss in the previous match. Speaking of their humiliating loss in 2021, English veteran pacer Stuart Broad deemed Australia’s spectacular Ashes victory null and void. The 36-year-old made headlines after declaring that Australia’s 4-0 victory did not register due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Broad suggested that the playing conditions were inadequate because the players spend the majority of their time in a bubble. Upon seeing the pacer’s remarks, however, the Australian all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne quickly responded. The 28-year-old opined that it is the responsibility of athletes to perform on the field regardless of the weather.

“It’s just a series, and Australia dominated that series. Our goal is to perform well on the field. It makes no difference what the external circumstances are. Indeed, we did so. The West Australian quoted Marnus Labuschagne as saying, “Hopefully we’ll be able to do that throughout this series.”

In addition, Marnus Labuschagne reflected on how regularly playing county cricket helped him better prepare for the matches and stated that it also helps one get into a cadence. He compared the time spent on the field to the time spent in training. During training, Marnus Labuschagne believes batsmen primarily consider the technical aspects and adjustments to their game.

“Playing a lot of (county) cricket with a little break in between really helps,” he said. “You get rhythm and feel and are able to learn from games, rather than focusing on technical things or changes that you begin in training.”

In Australia, there may be as much as two weeks between events. You return to training, where you may have performed in a certain manner, and you begin to make adjustments. You arrive in England knowing that you will play every Thursday through Sunday for seven weeks. If you miss a game, you simply continue with the same procedure. It develops excellent scoring habits,” Labuschagne added.
