Shubman Gill reveals why he desires Spider-Man's powers for the World Cup final: "I'd be able to catch balls."

The 16th season of the Indian Premier League has solidified Shubman Gill’s status as one of the best young batsmen in global cricket. Given Gill’s stellar performance for India prior to the IPL, all eyes were already on him entering the tournament.

The 23-year-old was in a class by himself and was awarded the IPL orange cap after scoring 890 runs in 17 matches and striking three centuries. Shubman Gill also broke Jos Buttler’s record for most runs scored in an IPL season, placing him second only to Virat Kohli (973 runs in 2016). Hardik Pandya and company lost the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad to the Chennai Super Kings, despite the opener being one of the primary factors in their team’s success.

Notably, the Indian opener is Pavitr Prabhakar, who has rendered the Indian Spider-Man character in both Hindi and Punjabi. Gill was recently asked what he would do if granted Spider-Man’s abilities. When asked what he would do if he were Spider-Man for a day, the cricketer said he would use the spider sense to collect balls on the field.

“I would want to be Spider-Man in the World Cup final because I would have spider sense and be able to catch balls,” Shubman Gill told Pinkvilla.

The flamboyant opener will be a vital player for India in both the upcoming WTC final and the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year. The cricketing experts are justified in their high regard for the Punjab-born player, who has demonstrated great promise in his brief international career. In the meantime, he has arrived in the United Kingdom with the rest of the team, as India will face Australia in the WTC final at the Oval on June 7.
