"Some doubts do go through your mind," Chris Woakes said about England's future after a long injury break.

Chris Woakes, a veteran English all-rounder, hopes to make a difference for the Three Lions in a busy summer of cricket after getting over a knee injury that forced him to miss a lot of games. Last summer, Chris Woakes did not play any first-class cricket because he was injured.

Chris Woakes was a deadly bowler with the new ball. He last played for the English team in March 2022, when they played the West Indies in a Test match. The 34-year-old speed from Birmingham was upset about not being able to play last year, and his knee injury even made him think about his future. But being brought back onto the national team for the one Test against Ireland gave him new hope that he could get back into Ben Stokes’ eleven.

“Last summer was hard for me because I didn’t get to watch any cricket, not just England cricket. When Brendon did call me, it didn’t feel like the first time, but it always means a lot, and it’s great to be back in the game.

“You do have those kinds of doubts (about playing for England again) from time to time. Chris Woakes told reporters at Lord’s on Tuesday, “That’s part and parcel of professional sports. Whether it’s form, injury, or something else, there’s always someone knocking on the door—a younger player ready to come in.”

You want to try to be a part of the big summer coming up. Chris Woakes

Chris Woakes hopes to take part in the epic Ashes match that England, under the leadership of Ben Stokes, will play against Australia next month. The 34-year-old said that the team is worried about the health of a few fast bowlers, but that they have a lot of fast bowling choices that will be put to the test next summer.

“Every time you put on the shirt, it’s a chance to show off and help the team win, and with a big summer coming up, you want to try to be a part of that. If you look at all of our fast bowlers, you’ll see that they are all very, very good. There have been a few niggles, of course, and with a big summer coming up, I think we’ll need that big pool of fast bowlers at some point,” he said.
