Matthew Foster has been added to the Ireland men’s test squad after Conor Olphert was compelled to withdraw prior to the team’s departure for the June 1-4 Test match against England.
Foster, 23 years old, is a right-arm seamer who plays amateur cricket for Belfast’s CSNI and interprovincial cricket for the Northern Knights. Foster had to withdraw from the recent tour of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka because his recovery from an early injury had not been concluded in time. Last week, he claimed 3-26 against Leinster Lightning for the Northern Knights in his first List A match of the new season. Foster will join the team prior to their May 25 evening departure for England.
Despite his and the medical staff’s best efforts, Conor Olphert has been unable to get his knee issue under control in time to play in a test match after experiencing a recurrence of his symptoms over the past few weeks. He will now be subject to new investigations as well as rehabilitation.
