Sophie Ecclestone, a spinner for England, will captain the Manchester Originals in the upcoming Hundred. The competition will begin on Tuesday, August 1, with both men’s and women’s events taking place on the same day.
Before the Hundred 2023, Sophie Ecclestone conveyed her pleasure in leading the originals and her satisfaction with the current setup following the draft.
“I’m thrilled to serve as captain of the Manchester Originals this season. I can’t wait to lead the ladies out at Emirates Old Trafford for The Hundred, which is such a fantastic competition to enter. Sky Sports quoted Ecclestone as saying, “I like what we’ve done in the draft; we have the makings of a world-class team, and hopefully our fans will come out in greater numbers than ever to cheer us on.”
The Ecclestone-led Manchester Originals will begin their season on Wednesday, August 2 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff against the Welsh Fire. Notably, the 24-year-old spinner has taken 97 wickets in 70 T20Is and is ranked first in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings.
Stephen Parry, a former Lancashire and England left-arm spinner, will assume the coaching responsibilities for the upcoming season. The franchise announced the appointment in January, following the departure of former English cricketer Paul Shaw.
Jos Buttler will head the men’s side.
Notably, English batting superstar Jos Buttler will head the Men’s team during the upcoming season. Buttler will compete alongside players such as Phil Salt, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ashton Turner, and Joshua Little.
Jos Buttler (c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Phil Salt, Laurie Evans, Ashton Turner, Jamie Overton, Tom Hartley, Richard Gleeson, Paul Walter, Josh Tongue, Josh Little, Wayne Madsen, Tom Lammonby, and Mitchell Stanley make up the men’s team.
Laura Wolvaardt, Sophie Ecclestone (captain), Amanda-Jade Wellington, Deandra Dottin, Kathryn Bryce, Emma Lamb, Katie George, Ellie Threlkeld, Fi Morris, Phoebe Graham, and Liberty Heap compose the Women’s Team.
