After turning down the opportunity to play county cricket, Australian pacer Scott Boland stated that he prioritizes maintaining his fitness for the national team. Notably, the pacer stated that he was preparing for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021–23 Final against India as well as the anxiously anticipated Ashes 2023.
Scott Boland disclosed that, in order to remain at the top of his game, he had to decline the offer to play county cricket, given the importance of the upcoming Australian summer.
“I’ve desired to compete in county cricket. But I know my body well enough to know that if I’m feeling tired, I want to continue my career for as long as I can. I want to avoid burning out. Scott Boland told cricket.com.au, “I avoid bowling balls that are not as important to me as bowling for Victoria or Australia.”
“I desired to enter the Australian summer in good shape. That is when I perform the best. This year I had the opportunity to play county cricket, but I prioritized being a tad fresher for the six Tests in two months,” he added.

Australia will play England in a five-match series following the conclusion of the WTC Final against India. The Ashes 2023 is scheduled to begin on Friday, June 16 at Edgbaston, and Boland believes it will be difficult for pace bowlers to feature in all six Test matches. However, he added that he would be prepared for the challenge if the think tank chose to play him.
“Fast bowlers will find it difficult to participate in all six games. I am unquestionably preparing to perform. It could be at the beginning or midway through; I am uncertain. “However, I intend to play and am eager to play whenever they select me,” he added.
