It was very disappointing to be omitted for the final Ashes Test and to never again receive a Test cap: Jason Roy

Jason Roy, a prominent English batsman, has had his moments throughout his career. After England won the 2019 ODI World Cup, the 32-year-old made his Test debut. However, his eagerly anticipated red-ball debut for England was unsuccessful.

Jason Roy scored an average of only 18.7 runs in five Tests against Ireland and Australia. Roy was subsequently omitted for the final Ashes Test at the Oval due to his subpar performance in Test cricket.

Jason Roy has recently commented on his Test tenure with the national team.

The 32-year-old opined that his time was incredibly difficult and that his exclusion from the Ashes squad was a harsh awakening.

“It was extremely difficult; I was thrown into the deep end of an Ashes. Frankly, it was an unpleasant awakening. To be dropped for the final Ashes Test at my home ground, The Oval, and to never again receive a Test cap was undoubtedly very disappointing,” Jason Roy said on the BBC Test Match Special IPL podcast.

With the Ashes 2023 series on the horizon, Ben Stokes-led England would seek to field their strongest lineup possible against Australia. Roy was originally recruited as a means of executing the team’s aggressive ‘bazball’ cricket strategy.

In addition, Roy pondered whether his Test debut for England occurred a touch too early. “It made me realize that my time in Test cricket arrived a little too soon. Unfortunately, the way my schedule is set up, particularly over the next couple of years, red ball matches are few and far between. “There is almost none,” said Roy.

“It is very difficult. “I haven’t said no, but it would be extremely difficult for me to force my way back into the lineup given how well they’re playing, the style they’re employing, and their current formation,” he concluded.
