England’s best bowler, Jonny Bairstow, thought about how long it took him to get better after he got hurt in a freak golf accident in September 2022. Bairstow said a lot of interesting things about how frustrated he was while he was recovering and wondering if he would ever be able to play cricket again.
The 33-year-old wicketkeeper and batter were brought back into the 15-person Test team that will play Ireland before the Ashes in 2023.
Before the one-off test, Jonny Bairstow talked about how he was feeling and wondered if he would ever be able to play sports again.
“You start to wonder if you’ll ever be able to walk, jog, run, or play cricket again. Those things do go through your mind, no doubt. How long you think about them makes a difference. There are so many different things that you wonder, “Will it feel the same when I play again?” ESPN cricinfo wrote about what Bairstow said.
“There will be little limps and aches and pains; that’s just the way it is. Whether it’s the knees, the hips, the legs, or the lower back, it doesn’t matter. When you have a traumatic experience, your body will change the way it moves or walks,” he said.
After being hurt for 241 days, Jonny Bairstow went back to playing sports. The experienced batter came back strong, scoring a steady 97 off of 88 balls for Yorkshire’s second XI against Nottinghamshire’s second side. Jonny Bairstow talked about his return and said he kept wicket for 100 overs in the second XI match. He also said he feels good about the one-off test and the ashes.
“I kept 100 overs in that first second XI game against Nottinghamshire before he went back to the first XI. In the last two championship games, things have been going well. Train, train, train on a day off. It’s been back-to-back, but no one has said anything. If it gets bigger, you know something is wrong. “So, it’s good,” he said.
