"We talked about the T20 World Cup next July," Faf du Plessis says about his possible return to South Africa.

Faf du Plessis, a veteran Proteas batter, said that he is in talks with Rob Walter, the new South African white-ball coach, about a possible return to the team. Notably, the flashy batsman hasn’t played for South Africa on the international stage in a long time, so his return has always been a big mystery, especially given the style of cricket he’s been playing in the last couple of years.

When talking about his comeback, du Plessis said that the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America the following year would be the best places to do it. But since the ODI World Cup is coming up later this year, Faf du Plessis may get a chance. However, the player said that at this point in his career, T20 cricket probably suits him best.

“I’m very happy that the new coach reached out to me to tell me he wants me to be on the team. At the moment, it’s just a discussion about my physical situation. I’ve been having trouble with my tennis elbow for about a year. I’ve gotten some shots into that… In this talk, I feel like you need to look at how my body, emotions, and mind fit together. This mix is really good right now.

“50-over cricket is not the same thing. It’s clear that it’s a longer structure. You spend a lot more time on the field… After the IPL, we’ll cross that bridge and move into the second half of the year. Most of what we’ve talked about is the T20 World Cup in July of next year, which we both want to happen. “That will be the center of attention,” du Plessis told NDTV.

Faf du Plessis has played in 143 ODIs and scored 5507 runs at an 88.6 percent hit rate.

In the simplest version of the game, the South African player played 50 games and got 1528 runs at a strike rate of 134.38.
