Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opener for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) on May 11 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, has reflected on his remarkable innings. He scored 98 off 47 deliveries to help RR defeat KKR by nine wickets in a decisive match. Sanju Samson, captain of the RR, also made a significant contribution to his team with an unbeaten 48 off 29 deliveries.
Samson, having won the toss, invited the hosts to bat first. RR restricted KKR to a below-par 149 in 20 overs, with Yuzvendra Chahal claiming four wickets and moving to the summit of the IPL 2023 Purple Cap standings. Trent Boult took two wickets as RR limited KKR to a below-par total. The visitors, however, chased down the target in only 13.1 overs.
Jaiswal stated that when he saw Nitish Rana bowling, he decided to go for it if he thought he could score runs with his strokes. The young opener, who provided an explosive start for the RR by scoring a century, explained that he struck the ball after analyzing the field positions and shot options.
“When I saw Nitish Bhai bowling, I reasoned that if I could score runs with my strokes against him, I should go for it. Jaiswal stated after the match, “You never know how someone will bowl their first ball, but after observing the field placements, I calculated my shot options.”
The 21-year-old continued by expressing gratitude that his opening partner, Jos Buttler, sacrificed his wicket for him. He added that it was at that time that he chose to assume responsibility.
“Between me and Jos Bhai, I am learning a great deal. Today, he sacrificed his wicket due to my error, which I greatly admire. Everyone is aware that it occurs naturally in the game; nobody does it on purpose. “But that was the moment I decided to take responsibility, thinking, ‘It’s okay, but from now on I need to take responsibility,'” he continued.

The youngster who scored the winning run stated that his only thought was to play and complete the game until the very end. However, he stated that he will recall his innings fondly because they were so intense.
“I considered going for a six to get the hundred if I could, but it’s all right. The other consideration I had was that I had to play for a long time and complete the games, so even at the end, that was the only thing on my mind: leaving the field after completing the game. I will recall this inning fondly. It was brief, but extremely intense,” he said.
