The Gautam Gambhir versus Virat Kohli saga is still vivid in the minds of the public and remains a topic of conversation.
Notably, both the LSG coach and former RCB captain were fined 100 percent of their match fees, but the incident did not end there. On May 3 at Ekana Stadium, Gambhir was observed imparting a death stare to fans chanting “Kohli, Kohli” during LSG’s match against Chennai Super Kings. In contrast, Kohli posted a cryptic message to his Instagram story the day following the incident.
Manoj Tiwary, speaking about the same topic, stated that the BCCI should intervene to prevent similar incidents in the future. He also opined that fans might recall Gautam Gambhir more for his aggression than for his impactful performances in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups India won.
“BCCI must intervene. This is not a delightful sight, especially if you are a representative of the game; you should not behave in this manner. IPL is one of the most popular tournaments in the world; many people, particularly young people, watch it. Many young individuals aspire to be like Virat Kohli. Consequently, it is essential to identify the fundamental cause of such conflicts. Tiwary stated on Cricbuzz that while healthy competition is beneficial for the sport, incidents like these are not.

In addition, Manoj Tiwary opined that the legends of the game should be remembered for their contributions and special performances, and that such incidents should not occur in the future. Using Gambhir as an example, Tiwary stated that the former Indian opener should be remembered for his World Cup-winning performances rather than the recent on-field altercations that occurred during the ongoing IPL 2023.
This cannot continue. As previously stated, these two are symbols. When cricket legends retire, people prefer to remember them for their accomplishments on the field. People will recall Gambhir primarily for his aggression; it will be the first thing that comes to mind. They will overlook that he played a significant role in India’s two World Cup victories. This shouldn’t occur. This is not an appropriate example to set,” the 37-year-old continued.
Notably, this is not the first time that Gambhir and Kohli have had an acrimonious argument. During a 2013 IPL match between RCB and KKR, they both lunged at each other in a similar manner.
