The Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has stepped forward to provide insight on the Kangaroos’ strategy moving into the much anticipated series against Ben Stokes‘ England, with both the World Test Championship final and the Ashes series just around the horizon.
Carey has stated that Australia will be hoping to enter the series with the way they have been playing recently in the red-ball format. The first Test of the Ashes series is set to begin on June 16 in Edgbaston, Birmingham.
England is well known for their “Bazball” style of cricket, and their recent success in the red-ball circuit is a direct result of this strategy. Carey remarked in his discussion of playing England that he would like to hope that the Australians won’t be shocked by the style that England will play.
“We’ve read some information in the media about what the wickets, boundaries, etc. would be like, and the way [England] are playing right now is eye-catching. Alex Carey said on SEN Radio, “I’d like to think we’re not surprised by how they’ll come out and play right now.

It makes sense that the mind games will start in the coming weeks with the eagerly awaited Ashes series taking place in the backyard of the Three Lions. The Pat Cummins-led Australia would be eager to discover strategies to counter England’s aggressive style of play.
“Over the next couple of weeks, the tactical planning will begin, but I don’t see us falling into the trap of having all of our batters go out and try to score at the same time. We’ll approach it differently; in the last 18 to 24 months, we’ve enjoyed significant success while playing the way we want to play in various situations, and we were fortunate enough to be rewarded with a place in the World Test Championship [final],” Carey said.
“We are eager to visit their backyard and compete against a side that is engaging in some pretty exciting cricket. I’m smiling just thinking about that first Test as a player; it’s going to be a fiery match.”
