Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, is urging the Chennai Super Kings to give Ravindra Jadeja another chance to take charge of the locker room. Notably, the star all-rounder was chosen to lead the CSK club in the IPL 2022, but the 34-year-old struggled to make an impression and lost his position mid-season.
Later, MS Dhoni resumed control of the situation, while Ravindra Jadeja’s potential departure from CSK prior to the IPL 2023 was being reported by a number of media outlets.
That didn’t happen, though, as he is currently playing a crucial role for the four-time champions in the current campaign. Gavaskar added that although leading a team is never simple, Jadeja can be a great choice considering his background and skills. In order to keep Ruturaj Gaikwad prepared for becoming CSK’s captain in the future, he also suggested that he be named the team’s next vice captain.
“I’d try Ravindra Jadeja once more. He might not have been at his best the previous year. Since he has more experience and has returned, he may not have found captaincy to be easy the first time. I’d let Ravi Jadeja take the helm once more. Ruturaj Gaikwad would be my choice for vice captain so that you can start preparing for the future. You are creating your line of succession since Ravi Jadeja is now 30 or 31 years old, Gavaskar told Star Sports.
Gaikwad is the future captain Aaron Finch wants for CSK.
Aaron Finch, a former captain of Australia, thinks that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be the ideal choice as the next captain of CSK since there is a sense of calmness in the opener, despite the fact that Gavaskar now likes Jadeja.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad’s composure and methodical approach to his game. However, maintaining composure is a crucial component of leadership, as is being there for others in addition to yourself. That plays a significant role. He’s someone I’d want,” Finch said.
Notably, the batsman from Pune has previous experience serving as captain, having captained Maharashtra on numerous occasions in domestic cricket. Under his direction, Maharashtra also advanced to the Vijay Hazare Trophy finals in 2022, where Saurashtra defeated them by five wickets.
