After the 50-over World Cup in India, Jos Buttler’s England are scheduled to tour the West Indies for two white-ball series later this year.
For the first time in over a decade, the defending champions will visit Trinidad, one of the venues on their white-ball tour. The tour will comprise three one-day internationals and five twenty-first-century internationals and will begin on December 3.
The Three Lions, who are expected to advance to the quarterfinal stages of this year’s 50-over World Cup in the subcontinent, are likely to rest several key players for the recently announced series, as it is scheduled to take place only a few weeks after the World Cup. In addition, England are scheduled to tour India in January 2024 for a highly anticipated Test series.
Antigua’s Sir Vivian Richards Stadium will host the first two one-day international matches of the tour. The remaining two matches of the series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. Each of the four designated venues will host two matches.
“We are thrilled to confirm England’s match schedule and to welcome back their many traveling fans for a pre-Christmas white-ball tour.” This tour will provide a significant economic boost to the host countries as well as the opportunity for our fans to see some of their favorite players compete against one of our greatest rivals, according to a statement from CWI Chief Executive Johnny Grave.
The tour will also contribute to our ongoing venue preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. CWI chief
While Grave was pleased with the entertainment value the series will offer to the Caribbean, he also noted that it would be an excellent test for the organizers as they prepare to co-host the 2024 T20 World Cup with the United States.
“The tour will also assist in our ongoing venue preparation and event planning for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in the region next June,” he added.
