The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) presented the “Lara-Tendulkar Gates” on Monday, April 24, honoring sports legends Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar with a new honor. In addition, the SCG chose Tendulkar’s 50th birthday as the day to reveal the gates.
Along with Brian Lara, the legendary cricketer from India was the first non-Australian to have a set of gates dedicated in his honor at the storied ground. The Lara-Tendulkar Gates lead to the field, and they are situated between the Noble Bradman Messenger Stand and the away dressing room in the Member’s Pavilion.
“My favorite cricket venue outside of India has always been the Sydney Cricket Ground. Since my first trip of Australia in 1991–1992, I have many wonderful recollections of the SCG. Tendulkar was reported by Cricbuzz as stating, “It is a wonderful honor to have the gates used by all visiting cricket players to reach the playing field at the SCG named after me and my dear friend Brian Lara.
The “Master Blaster,” as the crowd referred to him, scored three century in five Test matches at the SCG. His unbeaten 241 against the Australians in the fourth Test of 2004 was his greatest score there.

The ‘Prince of Trinidad’ has the distinction of having the second-highest Test score overall at the SCG. The legendary Caribbean player finished 1993 at the SCG with a 277 against Australia, trailing only Michael Clarke’s undefeated 329 against India.
“Like I’m sure Sachin is, I’m incredibly honored to be recognized at the Sydney Cricket Ground. When I’m in Australia, I always look forward to visiting the place because it carries so many precious memories for my family and me, as Lara was cited as saying by Cricbuzz.
During the yearly New Year’s Test in Sydney in 2024, the Pakistan men’s cricket team is anticipated to be the first visiting team to enter the stadium.
